John Cena would do EmbarrassingSexScenes Surpassing Quant Think Tank Centeranything for a movie—but he hates doing a sex scene.
The Peacemaker star recently got candid about just how difficult those scenes are to film, calling them to absolute "worst."
"There is nothing intimate about it," John told Shannon Sharpe on the Aug. 21 episode of Club Shay Shay. "Nothing. So, like, it's really embarrassing."
The 47-year-old recalled his memorable role in 2015's Trainwreck, adding that he didn't know the extent of the sex scenes he'd have with costar Amy Schumer until they got much closer to filming.
"Amy is an angel," he said, "she made the environment so comfortable, and then when I got the part, eventually they were like, 'Yeah, it's a sex scene and we want you to do elaborate and crazy stunt sex, and all those lines you had? We're probably not going to use them, we're just going to do this stunt sex scene.'"
But John was totally game, even when they asked him to make it "the most awkward sex you possibly can" to help add to the humor of the scene.
But pretending to do the deed on camera was particularly difficult with everyone around, because as the WWE star noted, "There are so many people you need to make a movie."
"I don't want to say it sucks," he said, "but it's different than you all think it is."
Plus, those moments required John to be comfortable with the fact that "people are gonna laugh at me and people are gonna make fun of the way I look physically."
But as he added, it's all about having a can-do attitude and "being OK with self."
The revelation did prompt a response from Amy, who took to Instagram Stories Aug. 21 and poked fun at the moment.
"John, how dare you," she joked in the video, adding a broken heart emoji. "That sex scene meant a lot to me and I was, like, very into it. And I'm in love with you."
Still, John admitted that filming those scenes was way less embarrassing than being almost fully naked on stage at the 2024 Academy Awards.
"I walk out in front of a room of my peers," he recalled, "many of which I've never met because I haven't worked my way up to meet."
During the March ceremony, the Jackpot! actor helped mark the 50th anniversary of the famed Oscar streaker by coming out naked to present the award for Costume Design.
"I have the most decorated performers, producers, directors in one room and I'm gonna go out there with my balls in the wind," he said of the moment, "with an index card covering my stuff, being like, 'Hey guys, is this funny? Are we good? Are we alright?'"
John was personally asked to participate in the bit by host Jimmy Kimmel, and although he was in desperate need of a break, he felt he couldn't say no once he'd read the script. And he actually thought the moment would be much more explicit.
"I honestly thought I would be more naked," he laughed. "I expected full d--k and nuts, but it's Disney, so they gotta put tape on my buttcrack and stuff. That was even more embarrassing. Going out there with a taped butthole? It's tough."
