Wes Scantlin's legal troubles caught up with him after the rock singer was arrested last week following a disorderly traffic stop.
Scantlin, best known as lead singer of Puddle of Mudd, was pulled over by police early Wednesday for traffic violations in California’s Verdugo and Kenwood area, Sergeant Stephen Turner of the Burbank Police Department confirmed to USA TODAY in an email Monday.
Authorities then performed a background check on Scantlin, which revealed the singer had an outstanding warrant for a previous arrest. Scantlin had been charged with possession of a weapon at an airport.
When asked by police to exit his car, Scantlin allegedly refused to leave the vehicle. After a series of unsuccessful negotiation attempts with Burbank PD officers and a crisis negotiator, pepper spray was used to remove Scantlin from his car to no avail.

Police subsequently requested backup from a SWAT unit, which “utilized less lethal munitions (that) ultimately encouraged Mr. Scantlin to exit the vehicle and surrender,” Turner said.
USA TODAY has reached out to a representative for Scantlin for comment.
Following the traffic stop, Scantlin was treated on scene by paramedics and transported to a local hospital for further evaluation. At the hospital, Scantlin received additional treatment and was later cleared for booking.

Scantlin was booked at the Burbank Jail for his outstanding warrant and allegedly resisting arrest. The “Blurry” singer was then issued a citation and released from police custody.
Formal charges against Scantlin are pending review by the Burbank City Attorney’s office, Turner added. Scantlin’s next court date is scheduled to take place Aug. 20.
