It's not easy to figure out your perfect skincare routine. It can take a lot of trial and error, but sometimes you just need one game-changing product to point you in the right direction. For Sydney Sweeney, that breakthrough product was the Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask. As soon as she used it, she was hooked and decided to try more from the brand.
The White Lotus star shared, "I have always been very very particular about my skincare because I have very sensitive skin. I've just been dealing with it my entire life. When I first started using Laneige products, I was shocked by how well they worked and relieved my skin wasn't reacting poorly."
Sydney elaborated, "Laneige has truly saved my skin, especially after all the makeup from Euphoria and red carpets. It can really be a lot of makeup and changing it up with totally different looks in one day. Taking makeup off and putting it back on can be very harsh on my skin." Thankfully, Sydney has found products that agree with her skin and can keep up with her busy days.
In an exclusive E! interview, Sydney discussed her skincare routine, beauty tips from the Euphoria set, and the Laneige Hydration Deep Dive campaign.
E!: What was the first Laneige product that got you hooked on the brand?
SS: For me, it was the Lip Sleeping Mask. I have one on me at all times, in my bag, in my bathroom. It has just been my staple product.
Sydney's pick has 1.1 million+ Sephora Loves, 19,600+ 5-star Amazon reviews, and 2,900+ Laneige 5-star reviews.
E!: Would you say that the Lip Sleeping Mask is your most used product from the brand?
SS: Overall, yes, but right now I'm all about the Water Bank Blue Hyaluronic Cream Moisturizer and the eye cream too. I use them in the morning and at night.
"I love these products because it feels like putting a cloud on your face. This is so nice, fluffy, and creamy without that heavy feeling."
"I love the eye cream and I use it a couple different ways. I put it on at night and go to bed, but, sometimes when I use it in the morning, I put on under eye gels. It's amazing."
E!: Tell me more about the Laneige Hydration Deep Dive campaign.
SS: I love this campaign because it's very kismet for me and Laneige. I am such a huge water person. I only drink water. I love water. I grew up on a lake. I love the ocean. Water is just such a staple in my life. Having a campaign that was centered around their love for water and how important hydration is felt very organic. The two of us just melded together very well.
E!: You can't beat that genuine synergy and alignment of values.
SS: I'm such a huge advocate for the products, which I think is super important. I literally use them every day. And I think that it's very important to make sure that you are being authentic to your audience.
Sydney Sweeney's Nighttime Skincare Routine
"First of all, it depends on if I wore makeup or not that day. If I wore makeup, I will wash my face twice. I do that just because I feel like I don't get all of the makeup off the first time. I will go in between two different cleansers that I like to use. One is from their Cream Skin product line and I like it a lot."
"I'll also use the Water Bank cleanser. It's like a white, creamy foam. It just depends on how my skin feels that day, but I go back and forth between this and the Cream Skin Cleanser."
"If my skin feels crazy, sometimes I will put the toner as well." Sydney's pick is great to hydrate and refresh skin, preparing it better absorb the rest of your products.
"Next, I will use the Water Bank Blue Hyaluronic Serum. Then, I do the Blue Hyaluronic Cream Moisturizer, the eye cream, the and the Lip Sleeping Mask."
This serum is an intensely hydrating addition to your routine.
"When I first started using this product, I had soft, glass-looking skin. It's a life-changing product. I was like, 'Can I put this on my entire body?' I would say I have combination skin. It will get dry or oily at different points. When it's dry, I switch over to the Water Sleeping Mask."
Sydney Sweeney's Morning Must-Haves
Sydney shared, "For my morning routine, sometimes I'll just wash my face with ice cold water. I use a lot of the same products that I do at night. I will use some eye gels and an ice roller. Oh, and sunscreen. You can't forget about sunscreen."
"Let me tell you how much I love this sunscreen. I have been filming on the water in Australia for the past four days straight, including the hottest day Sydney has had in recent years. Everyone got sunburned except for me. I'm not kidding. You cannot even tell I was in the sun."
"Sunscreen was always the worst thing for my sensitive skin. I also find it's really hard to find sunscreen that works under makeup. This one works perfectly. I have a lot of Laneige sunscreen coming for the cast and crew. No one could believe how I didn't get burned."
Sydney Sweeney's Skincare Tips
E!: Since you have combination skin, would you say it's more about paying attention to what's going on with your skin in the moment instead of having the same routine all the time?
SS: Exactly. And that's what I love so much about Laneige. They have so many product lines geared toward different skin types. Since I have combo skin, I have to switch things up. Plus, no one's skin is the same forever. Our skin is constantly changing and we will all need to switch it up with different products.
E!: Are there any beauty "rules" that you always stick to?
SS: Always wash your face. That is my number one. Make sure you use sunscreen. Drink as much water as possible.
E!: If you could go back in time and share some wisdom with the younger Sydney, what skincare advice would you share?
SS: I wouldn't say I had it right, but I was always trying to figure it out nonstop. Everyone wants to have good skin and feel confident in their skin. I was literally trying everything. I honestly wish I had Laneige in high school. I tried everything under the sun and it wasn't good.
E!: Are there any products that you use in an unconventional way?
SS: I use the Lip Sleeping Mask all day and night. Sometimes, if my skin feels dry or if my makeup is just not sitting right, I will mix foundation with my Water Bank Cream Moisturizer. It makes my skin a little bit softer when I do that.
Sydney Sweeney Euphoria Beauty Q&A
E!: On Euphoria, your character Cassie's 4 AM beauty routine went viral. How does your routine compare to hers?
SS: The funny thing is that's my actual ice roller from home. When we were about to do the scene, Sam [Levinson] was like "What stuff do girls do?" So, I go "Give me ten minutes because I live close by." I brought my bin. You know every girl has a plastic bin under her sink that has every skincare tool she's ever wanted to try. My assistant brought it to me and she was like "What do these do?" I go, "Just let me play."
"I love to ice roll every morning. I would say the ice roller is my staple because it enhances all of the other products that I love."
This ice roller comes in seven colors and it has 15,900+ 5-star Amazon reviews.
E!: Tell me about the skincare preparation on Euphoria. The show is beloved for its makeup and glassy skin look. It can be hard to have good makeup if your skin isn't great.
SS: That should be true, but honestly you really can have poppin makeup even if your skin is not great. I have dealt with acne on the show and so many of us have. You would never know it when you watch, but we have good makeup artists, honey. For the skin prep, it's just about making sure your skin is hydrated. We are redoing makeup constantly.
E!: Do you guys ever talk skincare or beauty tips on the set?
SS: Oh, yeah. We definitely do. When we are all sitting in the trailer, we all talk about makeup and skincare just trying to figure it all out. We are always sharing as much as we possibly can. We are all just trying to figure it out. No one knows everything, so talking to your friends about what they're doing and and things they're trying is a great way for us to figure it out together.
