Why Brian Austin Green and Tori Spelling Didn't Speak for 18 Years

Donna Martin and David Silver may have lived happily ever after, but Tori Spelling and Brian Austin Green? Not always.
The Beverly Hills, 90210 costars reflected on their friendship while filming the series and how their personal lives led to the pair not speaking for nearly two decades after its 2000 finale.
"I remember crying that we were going to lose touch because we were so close," Tori recalled of their last interaction after the series finale on the Aug. 26 episode of Brian's podcast Oldish with Sharna Burgess and Randy Spelling. "It was almost like going through a divorce or something. It's time to move on, but I'm also losing that human I'm with every day and have that connection with. What's going to happen now?"
"I remember you reassuring me that it was gonna be OK," she told Brian. "I remember you said, 'We're always gonna be together. We're even all gonna go on vacations together.' And that was the last time we spoke for 18 years."
Brian—who dated costar Vanessa Marcil from 1999 to 2003—noted that he kept his word and tried to remain friends with Tori. However, he felt Tori—who dated costar Vincent Young from 1999 to 2001—didn't.
"I remember going by Vincent's house to see you multiple days after we wrapped and trying to keep a connection going," he explained. "But it got to the point where I just never got that from you."
He also noted that he attended the 90210 DVD release party in 2006 with his now ex-wife Megan Fox, which Tori and her now-estranged husband Dean McDermott also attended. The 51-year-old added, "You guys got there and ou never said hello to me once. I just kept missing you guys and then you were gone."
"It was just this thing of like, 'She just doesn't want to be my friend anymore,'" he continued. "I genuinely felt that. I tried to visit you, I would call you. When that wasn't reciprocated at some point, I gave up."
He also emphasized that although he had a complicated relationship with Vincent, he continued to make an effort with Tori. "I still showed up," he said. "I had come to terms with knowing that wasn't a good relationship, but you're my sister."
Although Tori—who is mom to kids Liam McDermott, 17, Stella McDermott, 16, Hattie McDermott, 12, Finn McDermott, 11, and Beau McDermott, 7—agreed that his experience was “pretty right on,” she shared that she was in a difficult chapter of her life.
“On my part, I lost myself in that relationship again as I had done previously in relationships,” the 51-year-old shared of her romance with Vincent. “That relationship was not a good relationship for me and toward the end, I got wrapped up and things weren’t good.”
“I shied away from you because you weren’t a fan of the relationship,” she explained. “You had a good working relationship with Vince, but I don’t think you felt like our personal relationship was something that was correct for me. My process was different and I would shy away from those that would really fight for me.”
She also admitted that Brian's relationship with Vanessa—with whom he shares Kassius Lijah Marcil-Green, 21 and is also dad to Noah, 11, Bodhi, 10, and Journey, 8, with Megan and Zane, 2, with Sharna—also played a role in her decision to distance herself.
"That relationship was frustrating to see from a friend's perspective who loves someone so much," Tori noted. "To see what is going on and see how your friend is treated and not feeling OK with it, but also knowing that you can't really say anything because the person has to go through their own experience and go on their journey."
But through it all, Tori added, "I never stopped thinking about you and never stopped wanting to reach out and reconnect."
